RETAILERS ENJOY POINTE SHOE FITTING SEMINAR

On Aug. 18 and 19, six dance retailers from Florida, Maine and Puerto Rico flew to Chicago to attend the most recent fitting seminar at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique.

The workshop kicked off on Saturday night, when I invited the retailers to one of my favorite restaurants — the same one where I celebrated my 35th birthday the week before with my closest friends.

Children Celebrate Russia Day with Russian Book Reading

More than 30 children celebrated Russia’s national holiday with a reading of Russian version The Cinderella Ballet by Aleksandra, at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique on Friday, June 15.

The children, all of whom have at least one Russian-speaking parent, were eager to hear a story in their native language and sat attentively as I read this title from Growing Through Arts' Ballet Series.

Celebrating Russia Day with Black-Tie Gala and Performances

More than 250 Russian nationals and Americans joined together to celebrate Russia Day at a black-tie gala at the Chicago Cultural Center on Thursday, June 14.

Hosted by the Moscow Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International, which I co-chair with Prince Piotr Galitzine, the event honored Russia’s national holiday, which is celebrated on June 12 and commemorates the day in 1990 when the Russian parliament formally declared sovereignty over Russia. This is only the second year that Russia Day has been celebrated in Chicago, and the first year the event included a black-tie gala.

Reception and Performance: American Ballet Theatre

There is something magical about seeing an iconic ballet performed to perfection. That was the case this weekend when New York’s American Ballet Theatre performed the romantic classic Giselle at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University here in Chicago.

On Friday night, I had the pleasure of hosting a pre-performance reception at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique, where about 100 guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they mingled with representatives of the American Ballet Theatre.

Retailers Enjoy Cocktail Reception at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique

On February 12, I was so happy to open the doors of Russian Pointe Dance Boutique for an elegant cocktail reception for all of the dancewear retailers who were in Chicago attending the Midwest Regional Dance Show.

More than 50 retailers and dancewear vendors attended the event. People talked as they dined on appetizers and sipped on wine, champagne and signature Russian vodka.

Pre-performance reception for Maestro Vladimir Spivakov and Pianist Olga Kern

On Feb. 19, the Moscow Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International, which I chair, hosted an elegant pre-performance reception for internationally renowned Russian musicians Vladimir Spivakov and Olga Kern at Symphony Center.

Mr. Spivakov is one of the most acclaimed musicians in the world, especially among Russian musicians. We always eagerly await his return to Chicago.

LYRIC OPERA FANTASY BALL - "A NIGHT UNDER THE CZARS"

This year's 28th Fantasy of the Opera, chaired by Nancy Temple and co-chaired by Courtney Rosen, featured a Russian theme, "A Night Under the Czars." For the first time, Lyric Young Professionals joined in the Fantasy festivities and enjoyed an exclusive dinner in the Sarah and Peer Pederson Room catered by Jewell Events. I was delighted to chair this portion of the evening.
