Japan Earthquake Relief Fundraiser

Aleksandra Efimova with George Hiseada, Consul General of Japan

I am still moved and saddened by the tragic stories coming from Japan in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country on March 11.

So I was very eager to help my good friend, George Hisaeda, the Consul General of Japan, raise money for his country at the Japan Earthquake Relief Fundraiser, organized by several organizations including Chicago Sister Cities International and the Chicago Chamber of Commerce.

More than 500 people ― including Mayor Richard Daley, Gov. Pat Quinn and Illinois Senator Dick Durbin ― attended the event, which was held on April 1 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

The elegant affair featured performances by Japanese drummers, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and blues and jazz musicians.

Russian Pointe is also doing its part to support the cause by donating 5 percent of our sales from the Russian Pointe Dance Boutique and online to the relief effort.

I hope both of these actions will bring much-needed help to that part of the world.
