Why Balance can be a Key to Success

Balance… We often say that we have or do not have ‘balance in life’. It’s why I love doing balancing poses in yoga – it’s my little reminder that finding balance in life is much easier that it appears. What surprises me every time is how easy it is to hold a balancing pose for some time, comfortably and without much effort. I remember the first time I tried it… (I wish I made a video – it would be funny to watch how many times I fell in these poses). It’s a delicate balance between weight distribution, strength and flexibility. 90% of the success is in my mind and only 10% is in the body. 

For me the same principle applies in all aspects of life – finding balance starts in my mind and once established it’s much easier to hold on to it. This picture was taken during recent TMB trip – hiking Tour Mont Blanc with National Geographic Expedition. After a long and challenging hike up I decided to see if my mind was strong enough to overcome physical tiredness by holding this arm balancing pose. It worked! 

Lesson learned – start with the mind to find physical and mental balance.
